Observation Narrative
Stand located on steep, north-facing, colluvial slope above North Fork Holston River. Stature of trees and abundance of coarse woody debris suggest old-growth potential. There is no evidence of infestation by hemlock woolly adelgid. A few stems of Spiraea japonica are located in this stand, and this species abounds on more gentle topography near edge of forest to the south of plot. Small patch of Taxus canadensis located within ca. 50 m of plot to the south; to the northwest vegetation grades into Thuja occidentalis cliff.
